On the Issues
The following section lays out the concrete policies and laws that Robert will help fight for when elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives.
Education
Public education is a public good. As a public school teacher, I have witnessed the amazing outcomes and growth that can occur when children are safe and barriers to a quality education have been removed. Universally accessible, high-quality public education is one of the greatest investments we can make in the lives of all Kentuckians.
I will fight for strong and complete education for all Kentuckians.
Housing
Housing is a human need and should be seen as a human right. If elected, I will work to keep people in their homes, to keep our neighborhoods strong, and will prioritize a Housing First model for addressing homelessness.
I have proudly taken the #HomesGuarantee pledge and am committed to using a variety of powerful tools to ensure that every Kentuckian has a safe, quality, and affordable home.
A Green New Deal for Kentucky
Our health and our children’s health starts with a healthy environment. All Kentuckians deserve access to clean air, clean water, and clean soil but many still don’t have it. At the same time, climate change will be the global fight of our time, and of our children’s time. The working class bears the brunt of both of these challenges, and as a member of the Kentucky Legislature I will do everything in my power to stand up for ecological protections and local environmental health.
Strong Communities
We can and must work to strengthen our communities in the Commonwealth. Strong communities are ones where no one worries about choosing between rent and seeing their doctor. Strong communities don’t turn away the tired, the poor, the homeless that come to them searching for a better life in peace. Strong communities stamp out discrimination and demand professional and equal treatment under the law for all its members.
I will help build strong communities, here in Louisville and throughout Kentucky.
Labor
As a proud union member, I know that workers in Kentucky have the power to build a commonwealth that truly empowers all of us. For centuries, powerful business interests have built their wealth on the blood and sweat of Kentucky’s workers. Legislators in Frankfort too often side with big business over the needs of ordinary workers. It’s time that we fight back.
We need better wages, benefits, working conditions, and labor laws that help workers organize and fight for what is rightfully ours.
